Raman spectroscopy is a technique that allows chemists and biologists to identify molecular components of a material.
SCILO provides Raman spectroscopy services to our clients, and we are also developing new innovations in the field.
In the pharmaceutical industry, Raman spectroscopy is used to discover and verify chemical compounds in drugs and other pharmaceutical substances.
The technique is named after Indian physicist C.V. Raman, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for the theory on which the technique is based.
Dr. Raman theorized that light would scatter differently from different atoms and molecules based on varying vibrations and properties. Because each substance will scatter light differently, it is possible to get a “fingerprint” that is unique to each substance.
A number of properties of substances can be identified by Raman spectroscopy and the technique has become highly capable of chemical analysis and identification.
